Dental tourism

We realize that a growing trend for people seeking dental implants is what’s been coined “dental tourism” in Mexico.

Many websites have popped up over the last few years promising huge savings vs. dental implants in Nashville. Dental tourism for implants might seem like an attractive option to save money—but what is the real cost of those savings?

Cost is always a driving factor that has spurred the growth of not just dental tourism, but plastic surgery and general healthcare as well. Healthcare costs in Mexico are admittedly less expensive—but there are always caveats and you should be aware of the major ones.

Concerns About Dental Tourism For Implants In Mexico

Getting dental implants in Mexico can be relatively safe, however, the risk is also very high that you may not be safe in general.

Many of the places offering low prices for dental implants are in border towns or cities in Mexico with very high crime, particularly drug cartel-related activity. Recent news shows that innocent Americans are getting caught in the crossfire at an alarming rate.

The other issue is that Mexico does not mandate malpractice insurance for doctors of any kind. That means if a dentist leaves you disabled, disfigured, or something more serious—you’re likely on your own. American laws provide more rights for patients than Mexico does. Also, if there is a problem during your recovery, you’re halfway across the continent—now you STILL have to go to a U.S. dentist.

Of course, there are language barriers. You never realize just how important it is to fully comprehend the language in Mexico until it’s a matter of your well-being. Misunderstanding the instructions of the dentist or miscommunicating what you’re wanting—can be detrimental.

Additionally, Mexico is very lax with the enforcement of sterilization standards in dental facilities as well as minimum care standards. In the U.S. it’s heavily regulated but in Mexico, you never know what you’re going to get.

Finally, there’s the issue of insurance. Most insurance providers in the U.S. do not cover dental tourism procedures or any medical care in foreign countries for that matter.

The best alternative to dental tourism

My New Smile offers the best alternative to getting dental implants in Mexico. Not only is our work superior but it’s regulated heavily by the appropriate agencies and we’re fully insured. Of course, we may not be as cheap as dental clinics in Mexico. The old adage rings true though—

Cheap Is Never Good and Good Is Never Cheap

Our in-house lab and team of surgeons, implant artists, and anesthesiologists all under one roof reduce our overhead. We can offer more attractive pricing to our patients by using that leverage.

The end result: You get dental implants of the highest quality, aftercare is a phone call away, and with proper care your implants last for life.

Don’t risk your health, when you can keep your dental tourism stateside right here in Music City—Nashville

What To Expect
Process for Implant Retained Fixed Bridges
For those traveling to us from out of state, we have a process that works a little differently than the process for our local patients. You will need to send us a recent panoramic x-ray at minimum, however, a CBCT/3D x-ray is much preferred to gain a more accurate estimate of the work that will need to be performed.  This x-ray will need to be sent to our office to assure this is a case Dr. Peyray is able to take on and to estimate the cost of the procedure.

Preparation: Monday Visit 1
(The next step is gathering all of the digital images and information we need to start working on your new smile!)
Intraoral digital images/scans will be taken and used during the design process for your temporary prosthesis by allowing our lab to see how your mouth will look once the teeth are removed.
Extraoral digital scans will be taken of your mouth and face in numerous positions. This also assists in the design by showing features like your profile and lip movement so the temporary bridge will be as aesthetically pleasing and proportionate with your face as possible.
Regular photos will also be taken of your mouth, teeth, and face at various angles. These will be kept for our records and will also be the “before” images used in comparison to the images we will take once your journey is complete and you have your final new teeth.
All necessary consent forms will be reviewed and signed, along with a copy of the warranty for your implants and bridges; sedation medications will be dispensed.
Surgery: Tuesday Visit 2
All procedures to remove remaining teeth, place implants and affix your new temporary set of teeth to the implants will be completed, and yes, your new teeth will be screwed in, not removable. The prosthetic is usually placed same day unless Dr. Peyray believes it will be best to deliver the next day.
Total appointment time can vary widely per patient. We generally estimate between 4-6 hours from start to finish; the majority of this will be non-surgical time while your temps are being made. These surgeries always start at 6:45am
Delivery Of Prosthetic: Wednesday Visit 3
This will be done same day if possible, but may be delivered the day after surgery in order to give the lab time to make a great temporary fixed bridge. Because you will only be in town for several days the lab needs time to ensure the prosthetic is assembled perfectly. This takes time.
Post-Op Visit: Thursday Visit 4
You will return 2 days after the surgery to check the surgical sites, healing status, and temporary prosthesis.
After this appointment,  no regular visits will be necessary for approximately 4-5 months. This is the time we allow for your bone and implants to heal from the surgery and prepare for the final prosthesis.
PART 2 (Travel back to Nashville) TO EVALUATE & START FINAL STEPS
Approximately 5-6 Months From Surgery Date-Monday
Evaluate healing and confirm you are ready for the last phases of your treatment. At this visit, you will provide feedback on your likes and dislikes related to the temps you have been wearing. We will at this time take a new digital scan to fabricate the permanent fixed bridge.
The lab will then begin fabricating your permanent bridge and will generally have it ready to be delivered to you within 3 days from that point. You will do a fixed prosthetic try-in to see how it looks, fits, and feels once it’s made then we will make any necessary adjustments to finalize your permanent bridges.
Complete Final Delivery
Once the final bridge has been attached,  the access holes will be permanently sealed. At that point everything with your final bridges will be completed and finalized.
We will take “after” images to show off that new amazing smile and see how far you’ve come since the “before” images were taken!
One Year Maintenance
Return yearly after final delivery for examination and any needed maintenance to assure longevity of your investment.
